AskKin
Terms of use
The ground rules for using AskKin, in plain English.

About AskKin
AskKin helps you ask the people in your family questions and keep their answers. You choose a question, send them a link, and they answer by speaking or typing, without needing the app or an account. Their answers appear in AskKin as stories.
These terms are an agreement between you and James Cheng, trading as AskKin, an individual based in the UK. By using AskKin, you agree to them. Our Privacy policy explains how we handle information.
Using AskKin
- AskKin is designed for adults and isn’t intended for children.
- AskKin starts you with an anonymous account. Until you save it with an email address, your account only exists on that device. If you lose the device or sign out first, we may not be able to recover it.
- Keep your sign-in codes to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens through your account.
Respect the people you ask
- Ask people who would welcome your questions, and accept it if someone doesn’t want to answer.
- Only add someone’s photo or personal details if you’re comfortable they’d be happy with it. Everyone connected to that person in AskKin can see those details.
- Their stories are theirs. Please don’t publish or pass on someone else’s answer without their permission.
- Don’t use AskKin to harass, pressure, deceive or harm anyone.
Shared and Private answers
- The person who answers chooses whether each answer is Shared or Private, and can change it later.
- Shared answers can be read by the people connected to that person in AskKin. Private answers can only be read by the person who wrote them. Others see that the question was answered, not the words.
- Once someone has read a Shared answer, AskKin can’t control what they do with it, so share with care.
Answer links
- Anyone who has an answer link can see that question and send the first answer, so only send it to the person you’re asking.
- Links stop accepting answers after 30 days. The person who sent a link can withdraw it sooner.
Your content
- You own what you write or say in AskKin, including your questions and answers.
- You give us permission to store, process and display your content only as needed to run AskKin for you: for example, to save an answer, turn a voice answer into text, or show a Shared answer to your family.
- You’re responsible for what you submit. Don’t post anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights.
- We may remove content, or suspend an account, that breaks these terms.
Free to use, and future paid features
- AskKin is free to use. Some questions are shown as optional extras for the future.
- Payments are not available yet, and nothing is charged. If we introduce paid features, we’ll show the price and terms clearly before you buy.
Availability
AskKin is new, still in development and currently in a small private beta. We work hard to keep it running and to look after your stories, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors, and features may change.
Ending things
- You can stop using AskKin at any time and delete your account in the app, under Account.
- We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put other people at risk.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer law, or any responsibility we have that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Changes and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
We may update these terms as AskKin develops. If the changes are significant, we’ll tell you in the app.
